Kuunnousu / Moonrise

Vuosi 2020 oli epätavallinen vuosi, mutta on nyt ohi. Tässä kuu nousemassa aavikolla dyynien ja kallioiden takaa. Onnea vuodelle 2021!

2020 was an unusual year but is now over. Here is a moon rising behind a desert. Have a good year 2021!

Aavikko / Desert

Kokeilin ihonväristä puuvärisettiä maisemaan ja kun oli kyse punertavanruskeista sävyistä, aiheeksi valikoitui luonnollisesti länkkärityyppinen aavikkomaisema.

I experimented with skin-toned colored pencils and as they were mostly reddish brown tones, the subject was naturally a western movie type of a desert.

Sahara

Sahara, tai jokin muu aavikko. Ajattelin tehdä jotain vähän erilaista joskus kuukausia sitten, ja oli jäänyt ylimääräistä keltaista ja harmaata väriä. Maalasin niillä hiekkadyynejä, mutta väriyhdistelmä ei toiminut ollenkaan. Olen katsellut taulua melko epätoivoisenä pitkän aikaa, ja vihdoinkin eilen päätin tehdä sille jotain. Vaihdoin värimaailman lämpimän voimakkaisiin väreihin kalpeiden sijasta, lisäsin kaksi kurkea lentämään aavikon yli ja tasapainotin kurkien tummuutta alareunan voimakkaalla varjolla. Ei hassumpi lopputulos surkean alun jälkeen.

Sahara, or some other desert. I wanted to do something different some months ago, and I had some leftover yellow and gray. I painted sand dunes with them, but the color combination did not work at all. I have been looking at the painting for a long time, with some desperation, and decided to do something to it yesterday. I changed the pale colors to warm and rich ones, added two cranes flying over the desert and balanced the darkness of the birds with strong shadows in the foreground. Not a bad result from such a horrible start.

Kosteaa ja kuivaa / Wet and dry

Tämä ensimmäinen oli kokeilu tehdä sumuinen jokimaisema vähän erilaisella tavalla kuin ennen. Lopputulos on ihan sievä, mutta mielestäni eloton.

This first one is a try to make a river landscape, but a in a little different way than I have done it before. I think it’s nice, but quite lifeless.

 

Tämä toinen on yhteisprojekti kahden muun kanssa: minä tein taustan, he tekevät hahmot etualalle. Tämä on myös ensimmäinen aavikkomainen työni ainakin kymmeneen vuoteen, joten olen melko tyytyväinen (oman osuuteni) lopputulokseen. Mielenkiintoista nähdä, millainen lopullinen työ sitten on!

This is a project with two others, I made the background and they will make figures on the foreground. This is also my first desert landscape in at least ten years, so I’m quite happy as to how my part of this turned out. It will be interesting to see the final painting, after the others have done their part!
